Herbal-product sales dip tied to confusion, concern
Article Abstract:
Sales of herbal supplements grew by a mere 1% in 2000 over doubts about their effectiveness and public confusion over the vast array of products sold. During 2000, sales rose to $4.12 billion from $4.07 billion during the preceding year. On the other hand, herbal supplements registered sales growth of 17% in 1997 and 12% in 1998, according to a survey of sales in supermarkets, drug stores and health food stores. A reason for the decline in sales can be traced to consumers who tried these products once but stopped taking them when they did not feel anything right away.

On-line holiday shopping sets sales record
Article Abstract:
On-line stores sold $2.4 billion worth of merchandise during the 1998 holiday season, virtually the same level as projected levels, said James McQuivy of Forrester Research. Half of the total on-line sales was conducted by members of America Online. Analysts say the growth of on-line spending has been more rapid than expected, attributing the rapid growth partly to convenience and constant upgrading of sites.
