Heaps of trouble
Article Abstract:
New York City and Seattle, WA provide an interesting study on how cities handle their garbage problem. New York averages 27,000 tons of garbage daily and has only one remaining landfill. New York City started a curbside recycling program in 1989 and will soon implement a 20-year solid waste management plan. Seattle acquired a separate solid waste utility, contracted out recycling collection contracts and implemented a 'pay-as-you-throw' program for its residents.

The trouble with virtual grief
Article Abstract:
This article examines the so-called grief that the media and much of the public claims to feel at the death of celebrities such as John F. Kennedy, Jr. The article authors that such "grief" cannot be compared to the deeply felt sense of loss experienced by family and friends when a loved one suddenly dies.
