Imperial to pump $1-billion into oil sands project

Article Abstract:

Imperial Oil Ltd (Toronto, Canada) is to invest Can$1 bil to expand its Cold Lake, Alberta, heavy oil operations, a proposed move that could expand production at Cold Lake to 180,000 barrels a day by 2010. Disclosure documents have been forwarded by the company to regulators in Alberta. Production could begin in 2005. The proposed expansion would add 375 mil barrels of reserves. Already in progress at Cold Lake is the $650 mil Mahkeses project, which will boost production from 119,000 barrel a day in 2000 to 150,000 barrels a day. The Mahkeses project is scheduled to be complete in 2002.
