Union seeks to delay Ontario mine closings
Article Abstract:
Royal Oak Mines Ltd's two gold mines in Timmins, Ontario, are set to be closed, prompting the United Steelworkers of America union to plan to seek the court's help in delaying the closing. The company's receiver, PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc, has found no buyer for the Nighthawk and Pamour mines, leading to the decision to close the mines. The union will seek the court's help in ensuring that Royal Oaks pay for termination and severance pay to affected miners.
