Allan Taylor of Royal Bank of Canada negotiated a purchase deal with Royal Trust Co that effectively cost Royal Bank nothing. The $1.6 billion paid to obtain Royal Trust will be returned because Royal Bank will buy unfavorable assets of Royal Bank.
