The hospitality industry's hierarchical structure has raised concerns over the treatment of assistants. At a workshop organized by the New South Wales Tourism Industry, officials argued that the industry treats its apprentices worse than any other industry. They further argued that making demands on young people and having them work 12- to 14-hour shifts can give people a negative perception of the industry.

Article Abstract:

Those who abide by Jewish and Muslim customs for food consumption face difficulties in an age of global food trading and genetic engineering of food items. Enzymes from pigs have been used to flavor cheeses. Growth hormones and genetic material from pigs may be used in raising cattle and breeding fish. Companies are not labeling foods in ways that are sympathetic to religious culinary traditions.
