The Victorian Labor Party's leader John Brumby is under renewed threat because of the party's poor showing in the Oct 1998 federal elections and the Nov opinion polls. The Age is promoting his deputy, John Thwaites, to take Burmby's leadership position. It argues that Brumby has lost his credibility and left the party with little influence in parliamentary decision-making.

The mourning after
Article Abstract:
The Australian Victorian town of Tallangatta was engulfed by water in 1956 for irrigation needs of the nation. Residents were moved east, 100 weatherboard houses were relocated, and 2 hotels were built. However, in 1998, residents still mourn the loss of their town because of the lack of progress in their new location and their displacement.
