A new breed of lawn bowlers is working to transform the the game from its long-standing image of a geriatric sport into a modern, aggressive sporting contest. Lawn bowls is about to launch several tiers of leagues for elite players, competitive players who take the sport seriously and a league for social players. About 272,000 bowlers are registered and lawn bowl has become Australia's fifth-largest participant sport.

The Australian Cricket Board covered up the allegations that Mark Waugh and Shane Warne had taken commissions from a bookmaker. Furthermore, while these allegations were being investigated, the board made Warne the vice-captain of the team. Many believe that the board should have acted four years prior to the scandal and now it is only covering its tracks.
