New Singapore class launch
Article Abstract:
Singapore Technologies Marine has launched the Endurance, the leadship of the Republic of Singapore Navy's replacement to its US Navy 542-class LSTs. Delivery of the ship is set for the first quarter 1999. The Endurance's hull has a stern-gated dockwell that can accomodate four RPL.60-class landing craft and a bow door/ramp leading to the tank/vehicle deck. The ship's offensive and defensive armaments include an Oto Breda 76mm SuperRapid gun and port and starboard close-range surface-to-air missile systems. The Endurance is driven by two 16V Ruston RK270 diesels, with combined output of around 10,000 horsepower.

The leisure industry has difficulty in retaining its workforce due to low pay and poor working conditions. The vast difference between employees' pay levels and the remuneration received by members of the board must be reduced. Granada Group PLC board members receive 64 times more pay than the average employee. Senior executives also receive other benefits in addition to their salaries, such as bonuses and incentive payments. Many employees and shareholders are calling for executives' pay awards to more closely reflect the level of company profits.
