McTeer: the enemy inflation is knocking on our door: consumer price index troubling

Article Abstract:

Dallas Federal Reserve Bank Pres Robert McTeer is convinced of the negative effects that raising interest rates and the danger of inflation could bring. He opines that US economic expansion should remain sustainable to prevent the possibility of a recession. He also declared that inflation, which he believes to be the enemy of the economy, has arrived. To keep up with the economic situation, the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank has maintained its interest in oil a little more than the other federal banks and has also been more active in economic education.

Banks wary but willing to lend before the new year

Article Abstract:

The banking industry is being careful on giving loans to businesses, according to the Federal Reserve's latest survey of 55 big US banks and 21 foreign-controlled ones operating in the US. Banks are willing to extend existing customers special Y2K loans, but on tougher terms compared to other types of credit. Extra supplies of cash from the Federal Reserve would be tapped by the banks in case customers want to have more cash on hand at year's end.
