Molson gains market share

Molson Cos. Ltd., a Toronto, Ontario-based brewery firm, saw an increase in market share to 45.6% in the first quarter of 1998 as compared to 45.4% in the year-ago period. Executives in the company are excited about the slight increase since this is the first year-over-year increase in around four years. Market share in Ontario improved by 0.9points to 51.9%, while in Western Canada, market share rose by 0.1 points to 41.6%, but in Quebec, it lost 0.4 points to 48.9%. The company also reported a final profit of C$159.4 million or C$2.70 a share in the first quarter as the industry experienced an increase in sales volume due to the unseasonably warm weather.

Newcourt, Intel in financing deal

Newcourt Credit Group Inc., the world's second-biggest commercial finance firm, has sealed a deal that involves handling a vendor-financing program for Santa Clara, CA-based chip maker Intel Corp.'s dealer network in North America. The joint Intel Financial Services effort offers a an easy means for Intel resellers to supply equipment financing for small- and medium-sized companies. The collaborative financing venture is expected to produce about $100-million worth of new financings per year, according to the president of Newcourt's commercial finance division.

Labatt gains rights to Bud brand forever
Article Abstract:
Labatt Brewing Co. Ltd. of Toronto, Ontario, has expanded its alliance with Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. of St. Louis, MO, giving Labatt the right to Anheuser-Busch brands in Canada forever. The expanded alliance also calls for Labatt to give greater marketing support behind the Bud Light and Budweiser brands in Canada, and to give its US partner a bigger share of the related earnings. Moreover, the two companies have agreed to study the possibility of procuring raw materials jointly to save on costs.
