Partners Microsoft Corp and National Broadcasting Co Inc are planning an initial public offering of their cable and Web new joint venture, MSNBC. The proposed IPO would enable MSNBC to raise cash for acquisitions and global expansion. MSNB operates the Internet's top new site, with 7 million visitors in Oct 1999, while its cable TV network, which is valued at $1.2 billion reaches 52.7 million homes.

Cable deals follow trend towards regionalization
Article Abstract:
Charter Communications Inc has announced a deal to acquire Falcon Communications Inc for $2 billion in cash and stock. The deal would expand Charter's operations into mostly rural areas around Los Angeles and the Pacific Northwest, and would make it the fourth largest operator in the US with 5.5 million subscribers. AT and T will sell its 46% stake in the privately owned Falcon as part of the deal.
