Clarica Life is now a Mutual affair

Mutual Life Assurance Co of Canada has unveiled its new name: Clarica Life Insurance Co. The new name was drawn from a list of more than 600 names with the help of image consultant Landor Associates. Along with the new name and logo is a new sale slogan, 'Clarity through dialogue,' which replaces the long-time sell-line 'Life is a Mutual affair.' The makeover will be further enhanced by a huge TV and print advertising campaignt that will be launched later in 1999.

Clarica closes successful $4951-million IPO on TSE
Article Abstract:
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada-based Clarica Life Insurance Co has successfully concluded the biggest all-cash first stock offering in the history of Canada with a checque for C$951 million from its investment bankers. The insurer will use just under C$865 million of the funds to pay qualified policy owners who decided to take their portion of the IPO proceeds in cash. The remaining C$86 million will be diverted to the insurer's coffers.
