Newspapers benefit from 1997 advertising boom
Article Abstract:
Newspaper advertising sales reached C$2.3 billion in 1997, a nearly 18% improvement from advertising sales in 1996, according to the Radio Marketing Bureau as well as by the Television Bureau of Canada. The total expenditures for newspaper advertising in 1997 also eclipsed the previous record of C$2.1 billion in ad sales in 1990. The improvement in newspaper advertising sales was spurred by the decision of the Canada Post to terminate the distribution of promotional flyers, a move that enabled newspapers to gain an additional source of revenue.
