Using faulty eugenics notions Alberta and other governments once ordered the sterilization of people deemed 'mentally defective' to prevent the birth of defective children. The abusive childhood, mis-diagnosis of mental deficiency and subsequent sterilization of plaintiff Leilani Muir is discussed.

Homolka, who was convicted of manslaughter for her role in the murders of two teenage girls in Burlington, Ontario, seemed to have led an ordinary and uneventful life. There was little in her childhood or courtship with Paul Teale to indicate she was capable of participating in murder.
