Air Canada cutting fleet in fear of travel slump
Article Abstract:
Air Canada of Montreal, Quebec, will reduce the number of its aircraft by 10 to 156 in 1999, and is planning further cuts in 2000 and 2001. The trimming of its fleet to 156 aircraft by the end of 1999 will enable the airline to reduce its future minimum lease payments, which total C$3.5 billion. Air Canada also has long-term debt of C$2.1 billion and subordinated perpetual debt of C$931 million.
