Dofasco shares climb to a 52-week high on speculation of a deal
Article Abstract:
The speculation that Canadian steelmaker Dofasco Inc is being acquired by Bethlehem Steel Inc has pushed up its stock price to a 52-week high of C$28.30. However, the rumor was dismissed by industry analysts because Bethlehem is a smaller company with a market capitalization of $989 million, compared to Dofasco's C$2.4 billion. In addition, Bethlehem is a unionized company while Dofasco is not, a selling point for non-unionized acquisitors.
