Nuclear hot spots
Article Abstract:
A burgeoning nuclear threat is evident in the Korean Peninsula, the Middle East and South Asia. North Korea is suspected to be on the brink of acquiring nuclear weapons. South Korea and neighboring countries will react predictably by obtaining nuclear arms of their own. In the Middle East, Libya and Iraq are bent on developing their own nuclear weapons, and Israel is suspected of already possessing nuclear arms. South Asian countries, Pakistan and India, have dangerously toyed with nuclear threats without giving the slightest regard towards the significance of a nuclear war.

Balance of terror
Article Abstract:
The world may soon be balancing terrors and not powers if the increasing number of nuclear weapons is not placed under careful surveillance. Despite the threat of nuclear proliferation, progress in adopting safeguarding programs with rival countries such as Argentina and Brazil is very promising. However, the effectiveness of treaties and agreements on nuclear arms still need the watchful eye of the International Atomic Energy inspectors. Those who break the rules must also be treated accordingly, with harsher measures, if necessary.

The Iraq debacle
Article Abstract:
It was well-known that Iraq had aspirations of developing nuclear weapons. However, the world had underestimated the extent of their progress. After the Persian Gulf War, it was revealed that Iraq was only a year to half-a-year away from creating a nuclear weapon. It was a striking difference from the previous prediction of five to 10 years. Inspections ordered by the UN led to the exposure of Iraq's nuclear research program. It had served as an alert to the gravity of rampant nuclear technological exchange worldwide.
