Talisman Energy Inc Pres and CEO James Buckee received almost C$903,000 in compensation in 1998, down 61% from C$2.32 mil in compensation in 1997. The most recent proxy circular of the company indicates tht Buckee did not cash in any stock options in 1998. Meanwhile, Ranger Oil Ltd Pres and CEO Frederick Dyment received C$402,305 in compensation in 1998, down 51% from over C$819,500 in compensation in 1997.

Bow Valley's Iran deal irks U.S

Elf Aquitaine SA of France and Calgary, Canada-based Bow Valley Energy Ltd may face possible sanctions from the US government, citing the two companies' move of signing a $300-mil contract to developed an oil field in Iran. According to James Rubin, US State Dept spokesman, the disputed contract will be reviewed by the dept to determine if it breaches the Iran-Libya Sanctions Act.

Trust acts to meet ownership limits

Pengrowth Energy Trust plans to create a class of units, a novel attempt to stay onside Ottawa's new foreign ownership limits that might be copied by its rival. It introduces class B units solely for Canadians and class A units primarily for US investors, and seeks to avoid the drastic step of forcing some Americans to relinquish their holdings in the income trust.
