Ottawa talked to natives about taking waste
Article Abstract:
The Canadian federal government has talked with the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) on how to persuade remote northern native bands to allow the burying of highly radioactive nuclear waste in the Canadian Shield. The government earlier rejected a recommendation by an environmental review panel to set up a new Crown corporation to handle waste disposal. It also rejected a proposed three-year delay to look for alternative sites and the process recommended by the committee in choosing and evaluating a site for the nuclear waste.
