Article Abstract:

The $210 million operating budget of the Canadian Parliament offers legislators a wide variety of perks. The operating budgets of all Canadian legislatures since 1987 has risen 43% to $585 million. There is pressure to scale back benefits, but Parliament likely will maintain its perks.

There has been very little discussion about important environmental issues facing Canada in 1993 fall elections in Canada. Opinion polls show voters are more concerned with unemployment and economic issues than they are with environmental ones.
