Pining for a cure
Article Abstract:
Australian scientist believe they have discovered three genes that can help control resistance to needle flight. The fungus stunts the growth of radiata pine trees causing millions of dollars in damage each year. Foresters will examine seedlings and grow the most disease-resistant strains. Scientist hope this discovery will aid in combating other diseases especially pitch canker in the native species in California.

The zappers zapped
Article Abstract:
Researchers claim that humans are losing their best weapons against insect pests. Insecticides have been used since early in the 20th century, but they are losing their effectiveness as insects are become resistant. The first group of these insecticides becoming ineffective is pyrethroids, which kill insects but do not harm warm-blooded animals.
