Postwar immigration
Article Abstract:
The influx of immigrants seeking refuge in Europe has usually been influencedby the breakout of war. World War II witnessed the beginning of the wave of immigration of Eastern Europeans to Western European countries. Most countries had no systematic procedure for granting immigrants entry, but they grant automatic citizenship to refugees of formerly colonized territories. The heavy financial toll of migrants drove many European countries to place restrictions, selectively choosing on the basis of historical relations.

EC stalls on changes
Article Abstract:
The EC has failed to address the growing problem with refugees seeking asylum in Western European countries. Germany has suggested the implementation of a quota system and encouraged members of the EC to welcome more refugees. Regulating the flow of immigrants will necessitate a uniform immigration policy to be enforced in European countries. Yet, most European countries have refused immigrants entry and consistently delayed taking action in the increasing rate of violence against foreigners.

Continuing problems
Article Abstract:
The threat of ethnic conflict spreading throughout the Balkan regions will exacerbate the current problem of Western Europe with refugees. Germany is already forecasting an estimated number of 700,000 immigrants in 1993. Immigrants from Northern and sub-Saharan Africa may also join the wave of migration into Western Europe. The EC must adopt a uniformed immigration policybecause the migration of refugees is not likely to cease for quite some time.
