Several Canadian firms that took part in the rush to diversify now find themselves targets of such corporate raiders as Gerard Schwartz, whose Onex Corp has tendered a buyout bid for John Labatt Ltd. These raiders perform a service by punishing firms for their misguided diversification plans.
