Prison reform: The bleak world of 'supermax' prisons: Isolation leads to mental deterioration
Article Abstract:
The ultra-isolation 'supermax' prisons are meant to keep extremely dangerous criminals in isolation to keep them in order and away from harming other prisoners in ordinary prisons. But studies report that the extreme isolation leads to mental deterioration of 'supermax' prisoners, who are no less dangerous on release than earlier.
