Reconstructing Jerry
Article Abstract:
Jerry Lewis' comedy is back in style and his life and art are being explored through video releases, internet sites, remade movies, and biographies. The popularity of Lewis' comedy declined in the 1960s and 1970s as witty and urbane dialogue was preferred over the art of the gag. Renewed attention to Lewis reveals an increased emphasis on comedy that is childish, two-dimensional, and cartoonish.
