Religious persecution: is the global persecution of Christians increasing?
Article Abstract:
Christians are being persecuted in many countries, especially Islamic and communist countries, and advocates believe the amount of persecution is increasing. However, some religious experts feel the persecution is not increasing and charge Christian advocates with ignoring persecution of other religions and other people. Christian advocates want the US to deny aid to countries that persecute Christians and they have promoted legislation that would lower restrictions on religious asylum and impose sanctions on persecuting countries.

Governing Washington, D.C.; are major changes needed, or simply more money?
Article Abstract:
Disagreement exists on whether Washington, D.C.'s problems can be solved by major political changes or if more funding should be the solution. While the district has the nation's top per capita income, it also has high crime, declining education and public services. In 1995, a five-member control board was established by Congress to improve district government, but the board has had conflicts with the district council and mayor. Some reformers suggest giving the district greater authority to raise taxes.

The federal judiciary
Article Abstract:
Federal courts are being attacked by conservative groups and some Republican lawmakers. These critics feel that judges are nominated based on their liberal interpretations of the law, and that President Bill Clinton tends to appoint "judicial activists." Many legal experts respond that most of Clinton's appointments are moderates, and note that the Republican majority in the Senate has not rejected any Clinton nominees for the federal bench.
