Health Canada has approved 19 genetically-engineered products so far, but the debate over their safety continues. Critics of these products say they have the potential to produce allergic reactions and more disease-resistant pests. Supporters say the products undergo rigorous testing and are safe.

Pirates of the airwaves; cell-phone clones pose a growing threat
Article Abstract:
Canada's cell phone industry loses about $5 million a year to thieves who copy the electronic identities of legitimate cell phones and use them in another phone. Such pirating is technologically easy to accomplish, and few safeguards are in place to prevent it.

High-tech tolls: Ontario gets set to open the road of the future

A consortium of public-private interests has developed a state-of-the-art toll road in Ontario that identifies and bills vehicles electronically. The first part of the road will open in Dec 1996, and will offer an alternative to the congested Highway 401.
