Article Abstract:
The 1954 British Empire Games were memorable for two reasons. Runners Roger Bannister and John Landy competed against each other to break the four-minute mile record. Bannister won because Landy turned his head. The other event was marathoner Jim Peters' collapse 100 yards from the finish line.
