Rogers wraps services in big bundle

Rogers Communications Inc. President Ted Rogers has announced the launch of Rogers VIP Program, which is the largest package of bundled services in Canada's communications industry. The VIP Program will be offered to Rogers Cablesystems Ltd.'s 2.2 million customers once they subscribe to the top of the line specialty channels and have no less than two cable outlets at home. The VIP Program will offer discounts on products and services from Rogers Communications' group of companies. Among the offerings are 8% discount on cable package cost, free installation of as many as four cable outlets, a free movie rental monthly, and 10% off Cantel AT&T's voice and paging services. The program aims to gain customers' loyalty and generate more revenue for the company.

CTV's NetStar coup creates broadcasting buzz

CTV Inc's successful negotiations in buying Toronto, Canada-based specialty broadcaster NetStar Communications Inc has left many industry observers asking what concessions it made to emerge victorious. NetStar's four Canadian shareholders accepted CTV's C$394-million offer for 68% of NetStar. ESPN Inc, the US sports specialty channel that controls the remaining 32% of NetStar's shares, prefers CTV over CanWest Global Communications Corp of Winnipeg, Canada.
