SMK may sell assets; Ford rumoredas buyer

SMK Speedy International Inc, an auto repair shop, may divest its remaining assets or merge with its parent firm Goldfarb Corp. Its remaining assets are comprised of a chain of Speedy Muffler King repair shos in Canad and Car-X stores in the US. Meanwhile, Ford Motor Co though its Canadian unit, Ford Motor Co of Canada Ltd, is being rumored as the likely buyer of SMK's assets. This is because of long marketing and research relationship between Ford and Goldfarb founder Martin Goldfarb.

Linamar head joins $20-million club

Linamar Corp Chairman, Pres and Founder Frank Hasenfratz joined the C$20-mil compensation club, with C$21.4 mil in total compensation in 1998. Hasenfratz, who formed the Guelph, Ontario-based company in 1966, earned most of its 1998 compensation by cashing in stock option valued at C$19.035 mil. In 1998, his salary totalled C$443,666 and received a bonus of C$1,915,665. In 1997, Hasenfratz's total compensation was C$11,030,603.
