SWEDEN: AB WANTS STENA LINE SHARES

Stena AB, 53.2% owner of Stena Line, shipping company, has offered to repurchase the rest of the stock exchange listed shares for a total of about SEK 500mn. The purchase will proceed if the holders of 90% of the shares vote in favour and if Stena AB is allowed to acquire the debts of Stena for four fifths of their face value. This relates to high yield bonds valued at US$ 300mn. Freight volumes rose 4% in 1st nine months 2000, but passenger volumes fell.

UK: REALITY SHOWS INCREASE IN TURNOVER

Reality (UK), business solutions and logistics firm, had a turnover of GBu 219mn in 1st half 2000. This included GBu 40mn from Great Universal Stores, its parent group. Great Universal had a GBu 112mn pre-tax profit for the half year to September 2000, vs GBu 136mn a year earlier.

HONG KONG: STUDY TO SEE HK AS LOGISTIC CENTRE
Article Abstract:
The government has commissioned a consulting group to study how to convert Hong Kong into an international logistics centre. The study will take six months to complete and will focus on studying logistics infrastructure, human resources and electronic logistics.
