Hong Kong health officials plan to destroy 1.3 million chickens and 100,000 ducks in an effort to control the 'bird flu' virus H5N1. So far, 16 people have been infected and four have died from the virus. Health authorities are trying to prevent another massive epidemic like the 1918 outbreak.

At risk of death: a Texan rejects plans to operate on his daughter

Steve Stout took his 10-year-old daughter to Toronto, Ontario, for alternative treatment for her ulcerated colon. Doctors want to operate on the child, and a court has ordered Stout to return to Texas and transfer custody to child care officials. This order has legal precedent.
