Stars on parade in Melbourne
Article Abstract:
The old Observatory in Melbourne, Australia, has been opened for the first time since 1861. The Observatory was originally built to help sailors navigate longitude by the stars in the 1850s, when Melbourne was one of the world's busiest ports due to the discovery of gold. It exists on 15 hectares of land, which was returned to the public. The Observatory is also next to the Botanic Gardens.

Age of aquarium
Article Abstract:
Construction on the new $30 mil Melbourne Aquarium is expected to finish by Dec, 1999. Melbourne's last aquarium burned down in 1953, boiling thousands of fish alive and causing a spectacle witnessed by 20,000 people during rush hour. The old aquarium was popular for its sharks, crocodiles, and for famous swimmer Annette Kellerman, who appeared there in the early 1900s.
