Surprises possible
Article Abstract:
A Feb 1992 Supreme Court ruling on sexual harassment and sex discrimination, which allows students to sue for damages, may spur more lawsuits against colleges and their faculties. The cost of settling damages in sex discrimination cases in women's sports may encourage colleges to reform their sports policies, especially concerning women athletes. This may, together with the upcoming 1992 elections and the attention given to sports reform, be more effective in implementing Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendments than previous efforts, which were hindered by US economic conditions and the refusal of colleges to institute sports reforms.

Should the Food and Drug Administration require the antidepressant drug Prozac to warn users about possible suicidal impulses?
Article Abstract:
Prozac, an antidepressant, is in the center of a controversy on whether or not the drug's label should warn the users about the possibility of development of suicidal impulses. Certain consumer groups are of the opinion that the use of Prozac can lead to suicidal acts and therefore the Food and Drug Administration should compel the manufacturers to include a box-warning on the label. However, Eli Lilly and Company, manufacturers of Prozac, believe that suicidal tendencies are symptoms of mental depression and not caused by the use of the drug.

Is meaningful school choice possible within the public school system?
Article Abstract:
Charter schools and magnet schools can provide school choice within the public school system if allowed to receive the necessary funding. Advocates of this sort of school choice fear the voucher system will take way funding from schools and exacerbate the failing public school system. Others disagree that public schools offer a meaningful choice and note the educational and religious successes of private schools. Proponents of the school voucher system believe it offers a real choice for needy families.
