Participants from 180 nations in the International Conference on Population and Development and the parallel Non-governmental Organization Forum in Cairo, Egypt, in Sep 1994, adopted a 16-chapter Programme of Action on population policy, reproductive rights and health of individuals and other prominent issues of development for the next two decades. The main focus of the conference was on empowering women to assert their sexuality through enhanced education, employment and health services.
