New Zealand's largest forestry company, Carter Holt Harvey (CHH), has become a significant force in Australian wood, tissue and packaging businesses. The firm has 10% of its assets and 40% of its workforce in Australia. When John Faraci became CHH's chief executive in 1995, he bought the South Australian government's Forwood business for $130 mil. He is open to new investment opportunities in Australia.

Douglas Myers sold his 15.6% stake in beer company Lion Nathan Ltd to Kirin Breweries for $393 mil in 1998. In 1981 he borrowed $25 mil to gain control of Lion Breweries. He set out to stimulate New Zealand's economy, create jobs and improve the image of the country's liquor industry.
