Tarkenton settles civil fraud case with SEC

Article Abstract:

KnowledgeWare's former CEO, Fran Tarkenton, has reached an agreement to settle a Securities and Exchange Commission suit accusing him and 10 other executives of the software company of fraudulent activities that led to overstated earnings of $8 million for fiscal 1994. Tarkenton, a former quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, has agreed to pay $54,187 in disgorged profits and a fine of $100,000.

Tech-driven Nasdaq tops 3000

Article Abstract:

The NASDAQ compsite index reported its fourth straight record with 46.88 points to reach 3028.51, or 1.6% increase. The record-setting figures were led by high-tech stocks from such big-name companies as Microsoft, Dell Computer and MCI WorldCom. The index has gained 51% since Jul 1998, compared to widely watched Dow Jones, which has increased 17% from the same period.

Electronic trades zoom in on markets' future

Article Abstract:

Electronic commerce networks (ECNs) present themselves as serious alternatives to traditional stock exchanges. ECN proponents say investors save on trading costs because they can buy directly from sellers, rather than through middlemen, also called 'market makers.' ECNs also allow investors to trade beyond or earlier than the traditional trading hours.
