An inquiry into Australia's tax competitiveness with other major developed economics which would set the scene for May 2006 budget tax cuts is presented. A responsible government should frame its tax regime, its single most important agent of social and economic change against a globalized backdrop, easing the tax burden on the young and middle-income earners.
