Tents and prayer

Article Abstract:

An earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale hit Afghanistan's northern regions in June 1998. It killed as many as 5,000 people and destroyed 95 villages. Nations from Netherlands to Iran have donated funds and provisions but rain and hail prevented planes and helicopters from reaching the disaster areas. After these problems, the UN flew three planeloads of food and tents. Taliban, the ruling Islamic fundamentalists, refused to send help to the area because they are still fighting Burhanuddin Rabbani and his forces who control the quake zone.
