Canada is home to an estimated 125,000 Sri Lankan Tamils, and Chandrika Kumaratunga's Sri Lankan government claims that the Tamil Tiger guerrillas receive financial assistance from Tamils in Canada. Canadian immigration authorities arrested Tamil Manickavasagam Suresh on terrorism charges in Oct 1995.

Horror in Kashmir: rebels in India behead a Norwegian tourist

The Kashmir Islamic rebel group Al-Faran killed Ostro in Aug 1995, and left a note by his body threatening to murder the other four Western hikers being held by the group. Other Islamic resistance groups in Kashmir distanced themselves from Al-Faran's actions.
