A taxing situation: the blended sales tax has made few friends

Novia Scotia, Newfoundland, and New Brunswick will begin paying the harmonized sales tax (HST) on Apr 1, 1997, despite widespread disapproval of the tax, a blend of provincial and federal taxes. The HST will result in higher taxes for many basic goods and services such as haircuts and electricity.
