A Lockean argument against gene patenting
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to find a philosophical, as opposed to the purely legal, justification for the prohibition of gene patenting while allowing the patenting of specific methods and innovations in gene research. The Lichen premise that limits be placed on property ownership and his distinction between invention and discovery of objects in nature are the main thrust of the writer's argument.
