This article examines the current state of the law of defamation on the internet in Australia. The limitations of jurisdiction, and the differences between a defamation suit and one for injurious falsehood, are presented.

Issues concerning the control of material placed on the internet are discussed. In Australia, amendments to the Broadcasting Services Act, which will come into effect in Jan 2000, are designed to regulate online content.
