The Australian company Queensland Opals may provide a good opportunity for investors. Queensland Opals has acquired Opal Mining and Exploration and has also acquired various assets of Opalcorp, which has a Vietnamese jewelry factory and 15 Australian retail shops. Queensland Opals goal is to create a vertically integrated company that mines opals and then manufacturers and sells jewelry. Current stock prices are low considering how well the company can perform if it meets management's expectations.

Prospecting company Centamin Egypt has completed a pre-feasibility study for an operation to produce minerals near Alexandria, Egypt and has established a resource of 31.53 mil tonnes of gold elsewhere in Egypt. It has applied for listing on the Alexandria and Cairo Stock Exchanges, which would make it Egypt's only listed gold company.
