Time Warner turns back on 'soft money'
Article Abstract:
Time Warner Inc has announced the termination of a long-standing practice of political party funding. The media giant has donated large sums of unregulated money for years to political parties that is not beyond the jurisdiction of regulators as it is supposedly not used to help candidates for federal offices. However, these political parties have increasingly used such funds called 'soft money' to support their candidates by paying for 'issue ads' that do not explicitly exhort people to vote for a certain candidate.

Owmers to demolish dam that blaocks fish from breeding areas
Article Abstract:
PacifiCorp, the owner of the 125-foot Condit hydropower dam that blocked salmon and trout from their historic breeding ground, has agreed to start demolish the structure in 2006. The company said that it will contribute $17 million for the removal of the dam and for projects to improve the fishery, while it gets to operate the dam for another seven years. The company said the deal would be less costly than spending $28 million on ways to help the fish over the dam.
