U.S. immunity sought in Onex deal

Onex Corp and American Airlines Inc have asked the US government to allow American Airlines to set fares and share confidential financial and marketing information with the proposed airline to be created by the merger between Air Canada and Canadian Airlines International Ltd. AMR has earlier signed a number of deals that would allow American Airlines to share flights, frequent-flier programs and airport lounges with the combined airlines.

Chretien backs C-55 despite corporate outcry
Article Abstract:
Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien has announced his support for Bill C-55 despite protests from companies and institutions that are worried over possible US retaliation. The proposed legislation would ban Canadian advertising in rival foreign split run magazines. The US has warned that it will impose punitive tariffs on Canadian exports of steel, wood products, plastics, textile and apparel if the C-55 bill is approved.
