Monarch's U.S. sales offset domestic slump

Monarch Development Corp, a Toronto, Ontario-based housing developer, posted a profit of C$28.1 million, or C$0.69 a share, for 1998, up from a profit of C$23.8 million, or C$0.58 a share, a year ago. Company CEO John Latimer said the strong performance of its US operations more than compensated for a huge drop in condominium sales. Sales from the company's US operations rose 65% in 1998, compared with an 11.5% drop in Canadian revenues during the same year.

TrizecHahn says pace of acquisitions to slow

Real estate company TrizecHahn Corp of Toronto, Ontario, has posted a profit of C$529.5 million or C$3.46 a share for the year ended Dec 31, 1998, up from C$47.8 million or 32 cents a share in 1997. Operating cash flow increased to C$269 million in 1998 from C$176 million in 1997. The $7.6 billion company also announced that it will slow down on acquisitions to focus on internal growth in 1999, after spending C$2.9 billion on acquisitions in 1998.
