CanWest Global, the Winnipeg, Manitoba-based television firm controlled by Izzy Asper and family, announced a $636 million takeover offer for WIC Western International Communications Ltd in Nov 1995. If the deal goes through, CanWest could create a network on par with CTC and the CBC.
