The educational establishment has thwarted attempts to develop national educational standards, but effective state and local standards can still be developed to improve schools. The world history curriculum from the National Center for History in the Schools is an example of bungled standards.

Recent court decisions upholding the legality of physician-assisted suicide are based on the mistaken beliefs that voluntary euthanasia is a new phenomenon and that it is widely supported. A social policy that keeps euthanasia illegal but recognizes exceptions is the best policy.
